Rock Harbor Church · Love. Laugh. Live.

Our Core Values

Together, creating safe spaces for everyone to love, laugh, and live out the Good News of Jesus.

Our core values describe the culture we seek to cultivate at Rock Harbor and the way we live out our vision together. They shape how we welcome people, build relationships, equip others, and make ministry decisions. They help us recognize what matters most when we choose where to invest our time, energy, and resources.

We welcome people with dignity, make room for honest questions, and walk alongside one another with grace and truth. We seek to protect the vulnerable and address harm with care and integrity.

1We Share Our Lives

We build relationships that extend beyond Sunday. We share meals, welcome honest conversations, carry one another's burdens, and care for practical and spiritual needs. We help one another become fully devoted disciples of Jesus through Scripture, prayer, encouragement, and loving accountability.

In our ministry: We make space for small groups and shared tables, follow up when people are hurting, and help people form relationships across the church. Personal care is part of everyone's ministry. When relationships are strained, we pursue honest conversation, forgiveness, and reconciliation with humility and care.

2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. - Galatians 6:2, NIV
2We Make Room to Laugh

We celebrate what God is doing and enjoy life together. Laughter, gratitude, and celebration are part of how we create a welcoming church family.

In our ministry: We celebrate baptisms and answered prayer, plan time to enjoy one another, and welcome the warmth and laughter that help people feel at home. We make room for joy in ordinary moments.

22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. - Proverbs 17:22, NIV
3We Create Opportunities, Not Obligations

We create meaningful opportunities for people to follow and serve Jesus. We invite people to respond to God's grace with willing hearts and faithful participation. As we freely respond to Jesus, we learn to keep our commitments and become people others can depend on.

In our ministry: We explain the purpose behind each invitation, make next steps clear, and support people as they serve. Willing generosity shapes how we invite people to contribute their time, gifts, and resources.

12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. - 2 Corinthians 8:12, NIV
4Everyone Gets to Play

God created you on purpose and for a purpose. We equip people of every generation to discover, develop, and use their gifts in meaningful ministry.

In our ministry: We mentor new leaders, invite children, youth, and adults to contribute, and help people find roles that fit their gifts and season of life. We help people serve with the training, support, and accountability appropriate to their gifts.

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. - 1 Peter 4:10, NIV
5We Have Ambassadors, Not Members

We live as Christ's ambassadors wherever he sends us. We represent Jesus in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and communities. We serve, give, and participate together through Rock Harbor to bless our neighbors and the nations.

In our ministry: We equip people to share their faith naturally, serve local needs, and build relationships beyond our congregation. We invest in mission and want our community to recognize Jesus' love through our actions.

20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. - 2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV
6To Reach Those Others Aren't Reaching, We Will Have to Do What Others Aren't Doing

We communicate the Good News with creativity, clarity, and courage. We remain faithful to the message while being willing to change our methods. We listen carefully and adapt thoughtfully so people can hear and understand the gospel.

In our ministry: We listen to people who are not connected to church and adapt our language, gatherings, and outreach so they can hear and understand the Good News. We learn from what helps people connect and take meaningful steps toward Jesus.

22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. - 1 Corinthians 9:22, NIV
7Whatever It Takes, Short of Sin, to Bring People One Step Closer to Jesus

We willingly give our time and resources and set aside personal preferences and comfort so others can encounter Jesus and grow in their faith. We embrace the sacrifice involved in helping others follow him.

In our ministry: We consider whose next step could be helped by a change in our priorities, budget, or schedule. We embrace personal sacrifice while keeping every ministry approach consistent with Scripture and the character of Jesus.

23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. - 1 Corinthians 9:23, NIV
Our Biblical Foundation

Our Covenant Foundation

As part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, we receive the Covenant Affirmations as our shared theological foundation. They ground us in the authority of Scripture, the need for new life in Christ, the full scope of the church's mission, a shared life of faith, reliance on the Holy Spirit, and the freedom Jesus gives his people.

These seven local values express how we put that faith into practice at Rock Harbor. We understand and practice every value under the authority of Scripture and in harmony with the Covenant Affirmations. Our creativity, generosity, relationships, and ministry priorities grow from this shared foundation.

Where Is It Written?

We return to this question as we discern how to live and lead. We read passages in context, listen to the whole witness of Scripture, and prayerfully seek the Holy Spirit's guidance. God's Word shapes our convictions, corrects our preferences, and calls us to obedience. The passages accompanying these values provide biblical anchors for our practice and invite continued study together.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. - 2 Timothy 3:16, NIV

Our Seed Verse

Our vision grows from the connection between sharing the Good News and sharing our lives. We want people to hear the message of Jesus and experience his love through a church family that walks alongside them.

8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. - 1 Thessalonians 2:8, NIV

We belong to Jesus. We represent Jesus. We share life in Jesus.

Put these values into practice. Explore opportunities to use your gifts and serve alongside our church family.
