BELONG to Jesus — Ephesians 2:1–10 — Rock Harbor Church

WEEK 1

BELONG to Jesus

15-20 minutes • Ephesians 2:1-10 • One meaningful response

The Good News of Jesus is that His grace gives us a new life of purpose as people who BELONG to Him.

Begin with prayer

1 minute

Jesus, open my eyes to Your grace. Help me understand what it means to belong to You. Give me a willing heart to follow where You lead. Amen.

Read the passage

3 minutes · Ephesians 2:1-10

Read Ephesians 2:1-10 slowly in your Bible. Notice our condition in verses 1-3, God's action in verses 4-9, and the life He gives us in verse 10. Circle or write down the words that describe what God has done.

Consider the Good News

4 minutes

Paul begins with the depth of our need. Sin left us spiritually dead and deserving of judgment. Religious familiarity could not rescue us. Our hope begins with God, who is rich in mercy.

Jesus, our promised Messiah, lived in perfect obedience to His Father. At the cross, He bore the judgment we deserved. He died for our sins and rose from the dead. Through faith in Him, we receive forgiveness and new life. We belong to Jesus because of what Jesus has done for us.

Verses 8-10 establish the order: salvation is God's gift, received through faith, and the good works of our new life follow. The Holy Spirit changes us from within. We learn to confess sin, trust Jesus, and obey Him in the ordinary places where we live.

This foundation matters as you explore Rock Harbor. A church commitment cannot give you the life only Jesus can give. Becoming an Ambassador expresses a faith and belonging that begin in Him. Take time to understand that grace before considering the commitments of our shared church life.

Reflect honestly

5 minutes · Reflect privately in your journal or discuss with someone you trust.

  1. What do I learn about myself in Ephesians 2:1-3? What do I learn about God in verses 4-9?
  2. Where am I relying on my religious history or good works for assurance instead of trusting Jesus?
  3. How does being God's handiwork change the way I think about obedience?
  4. Where am I still resisting the Jesus I belong to?

Offer one response

3-5 minutes

Pray: Jesus, I belong to You. Here is my next yes. Write one response to His grace. It may be trusting Him for the first time, confessing a sin, seeking forgiveness, or obeying a step you have delayed. Ask His Spirit for help and consider inviting a trusted person to pray with you.

Your reflection can remain private. If you would like to talk or pray with someone, use Connect with Us or contact Pastor Kevin.

Optional opportunities after reflection

As you consider your response, you may want to explore serving at Rock Harbor. Our growing children's ministry needs people who will learn children's names, listen to their questions, and open the Bible with them. You might be ready to serve for the first time. If you already serve monthly and have the capacity, you might offer one additional Sunday. The team can help you explore a suitable role and the required application process.

Grace also shapes our generosity. We give cheerfully because we get to participate in what God is doing. Take time to pray about giving intentionally from what He has entrusted to you. Giving cannot earn His acceptance. Our generosity grows from the life we have received in Jesus.

7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7, NIV
